About the book:
A feminist, pacifist, socialist, Pallister was twice accused of sedition in the First World War, before travelling to Nazi Germany, helping rescue Jewish people. In between this Brynmawr school teacher reached the heights of the labour movement and had a parliamentary career beckoning before she was struck down by years of paralysing infirmity, recovering to become a successful journalist and broadcaster. A fearless advocate for women's rights and gender equality, and a forerunner of the Women's Liberation Movement, so compelling a figure was she that her life story was serialised on radio over five days during her lifetime.
About the author:
Alun Burge is from the Sirhowy Valley. He studied in evening classes before going to Hull University. During the 1980s he lived in Nicaragua and worked for various international organisations, mainly in Latin America, during the 1990s. After a decade in the Department of Social Justice of Welsh Government, he is now an honorary fellow in the History Department of Swansea University and is currently researching international solidarity with Chile and Nicaragua during the 1970s and 1980s at the National Museum of Wales.
